GuestPoints were created to make non-reciprocal exchanges possible — that is, when two members cannot stay at each other's homes at the same time or simply want to go to different destinations.
Example:
Imagine a German couple would like to stay in your home, but instead of going to Germany, you want to travel to Italy. A direct reciprocal exchange wouldn’t be possible. Thanks to GuestPoints, the German couple can stay at your home in exchange for a certain number of GuestPoints, and you can later use those GuestPoints to stay in an Italian home of your choice.
GuestPoints exist to reward and compensate the hospitality offered by a host.
What types of exchanges are possible?
Thanks to the GuestPoints system, HomeExchange allows two main types of exchanges:
-
Reciprocal exchange: You host the person whose home you’re staying in. It can happen simultaneously or at different times. You can also choose to include GuestPoints to account for any difference in the value or length of stay.
-
Non-reciprocal exchange: You host someone or stay at someone’s home without doing an exchange in return. In this case, the guest offers GuestPoints to thank the host for their hospitality.
How are GuestPoints calculated?
Each home has a GuestPoint value per night, automatically determined by the system based on different criteria (location, size, amenities, etc.).

How are GuestPoints transferred?
When you finalize a non-reciprocal exchange, GuestPoints are automatically deducted from your account and transferred to your host.
In a reciprocal exchange, you can choose whether or not to use GuestPoints — for instance, to balance a difference in value or duration between the two stays.
